Manual reporting & spreadsheet-level data processing tasks account for ~80% of the time-savings available to your business.
It doesn't sound as sexy as "AI agents", or "custom in-house automation tools"..
But the point of automation isn't to sound sexy. The point of automation is to save you time.
For businesses who know they need to save time, Excel is the tree of the low-hanging fruit. For a fee, we'll help you pick from it.
Every time someone opens up an Excel spreadsheet, it's of interest to us. Tasks like calculating totals, writing formulas, formatting reports, checking the numbers, cross-referencing two lists, copy-pasting data around etc.
And then re-doing it all again next month..
All these tasks represent is a significant, recurring time-cost to your business. And the occasional headache-inducing user error.
Beyond automated reporting & data-processing, common automations include document data-extraction, email/attachment processing & web-scraping. These are a case-by-case basis.
Drag & drop automation platforms like Zapier/Power Automate can be useful, but they're not something we generally work on for clients. An in-house team member who's passionate & keen about the topic is your best bet for leveraging those types of tools. We can help with training & guidance, but prefer to focus our time where we know it has the greatest impact.
Pro Tip; The key to unlocking value with those tools, is in stacking dozens of little 1-5 step flows over time. Not in trying to build large, complex multi-step automations. "Move this file from A to B".. As opposed to "press a button and onboard this new client with all fields in CRM, new client folder setup and factfind completed."
We are sceptical of AI.
Which is exactly what you should be looking for in an AI partner, in our opinion.
We elect for non-AI solutions wherever possible. But in cases where it's required, we're able to investigate, plan & deliver you what you need.
Understanding that the very concept of a LLM only entered into existence in 2017, we take a cautious, practical approach to AI projects.
Generally these projects involve some form of batch processing of unstructured text data. Like several years worth of PDFs collated for extracting structured-data.
Or for ad-hoc document processing, as part of a broader process/workflow, customer onboarding for example. Where you need to query in natural language or extract data from the same type of doc on a regular basis, one where the contents differ each time, and the structure is too variable for non-AI workflows.
Where we are less sceptial however, is non-automated AI, (chat user-interface). Staff training & bottom up use-case definition is what we recommend here.
"Sally in admin, knows more about how AI applies to her role than you do, embrace that fact & ask Sally her opinions/findings/use-cases."
The sentence above is our official corporate AI-strategy FYI. Now you don't need to pay an AI consultant thousands of dollars to come in just for him to ask Sally how she's using AI..
